[07-06-2007] PC Magazine reviews the Roboquad.
PC Magazine’s expert gadget reviewer Lance Ulanoff has done an extensive review of the Roboquad. The little crab like robot did an excellent job of entertaining his kids who dubbed the Roboquad “cool”. In the review he explains in detail the four major behavior modes of the Roboquad; default, Activity, Aggression, and Awareness which all have level settings for intensity. It’s speakers are powerful but there is a volume control in case things get too raucous. Like most WowWee robots it comes with complete hand held remote control and is also programmable with each program capable of storing up to 40 different robot operations. I cover more of the features down below on this page. Go read Lance’s review using the link above and when you come back, check out some of the new Roboquad videos I found on YouTube.
Unlike most consumer toy robots, the Roboquad is able to react quickly to it’s environment. Part of this quick reaction system is a head that can sweep the room with a tightly focused infrared beam and make rapid decisions about how to react to it’s environment. WowWee claims that this little spider bot can even identify the size of an object and is sensitive enough to detect the edges of doorways.

This robot is probably the one that was rumored to be have the original name of SpiderSapien. If that rumor was correct, then apparently they changed it to Roboquad. However, Evosapien Team Expert Nocturnal decided to create a SpiderSapien anyway which you can see in this humorous spidersapien video.
