Supported Devices

The Robosapien Dance Machine software needs to talk to your robot using the same infrared technology that the included remote control uses.  Fortunately there are people that make infrared devices that connect to your personal computer.  Some of these devices only transmit infrared, while others can transmit and receive (transceivers).  The transceiver devices usually have the capability to learn the infrared codes that other remote controls emit, and therefore can be used to do things like control various electronic appliances in your house (assuming you have the correct software).

Jon Rhees USB UIRT

A USB based transceiver that can installs easily and works well. It can also be used to control other consumer electronics devices in your home with the help of other software that you can find on the Internet; some of which is free and some is not.

Lego Mindstorms Serial Tower

The old serial tower from the Lego Mindstorms robotics kits (not the newer USB tower).  It connects to one of the COM ports on your PC. They can be found used on the Internet in many places and are very cheap.  If you have one of the Lego Mindstorms kits you may already have one.  (Note: if you have one of the USB towers contact us and we will tell you the status on support for that device.)  Use the link above to check eBay for any available units.

We are actively searching for other infrared devices.  If you know of an inexpensive, reliable, and easy to order unit please let us know using the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page.  Transmitter only devices are fine because at the moment the software does not need to learn or receive infrared codes, only transmit them.
