Wow Wee Robopet

When the original robot came on the scene, soon afterward a knock-off of the robot appeared known as the Roboactor. I have been told by owners of the clone that it is not the same quality as the WowWee Robosapien. However, it was so close in appearance and functionality, I was constantly getting email questions and seeing forum questions from confused would-be buyers of the Robosapien.

This has some people a little nervous out there as to the authenticity of some of the toys they have seen that belong to the Mark Tilden line of toy robots. So I'm writing this post to clarify a few things. The Sharper Image red and chrome signature series robopets and the Radio Shack Bulldog Robopet are authentic Robopets that were customized for these two large vendors by WowWee. In addition, if you see the Robopet listed as "Wow Wee Robopet" or "WowWee Robopet", they are valid listings because WowWee is the manufacturer of the Robopet.

Happy shopping!

Hi,

I'm trying to get a Lego IR Tower (serial port) to talk to Robopet in the hope of writing a module for robodance and saving myself the cost of a USB-UIRT.

I found some code that works with Robosapien (I don't have one so I can't test it) and I have found scripts for sending hex codes to the Lego block, so I imagine I should be able to get something to work.

What I don't have is the IR codes for Robopet. I was hoping that they were a subset of the Robosapien codes but so far I haven't made a lot of progress and without knowing whether the codes I am using are correct, I can't really judge whether the scripts/code I have found will work.

I would be really grateful if you could point me to the IR codes.

Thanks for listening.

rubyduck,

The problem is, I used the USB UIRT to learn the Robopet codes. The code strings the UIRT sends to me are a proprietary format which I don't know how to convert to the raw infrared codes (timings, etc.) that you would need to drive the LEGO serial tower.

I am VERY keen to help you since I own one of the LEGO serial towers. I've been wanting to get it working for a long time but just haven't had the time.

Please go to my forum and register, and let's continue this discussion in the Robopet section of the forum. Let's see if we can get this working together!

rubyduck,

The forum can be found at:

Thanks.

It can be also good to modify a Roboactor robot, which has similar functionalities as the original Robosapiens. Firstly, I designed and built a specific hardware to communicate and control the robot directly from the computer, in this case using RS232 transmission. Later on, in the project we attached a web cam (sweex model) in order to implement vision functions on the robot. Thanks to the webcam we could achieve the last goal which consistes in track a ball with the web cam and using matlab programs and the do the robot move close to the ball and kick it.
If u are interested in do something similar u can download the schematics and the details from my web page:
