Robocourier - Delivery Robot For Hospitals
![]() | Next time you visit a hospital, don't be surprised if a small robot passes you in the hallway on its way to pick up or deliver patient samples. Mopec, a leading provider of morgue, pathology and histology products, has created RoboCourier, a self-navigating utility robot designed to remove the grunt work of distributing and collecting patient samples through a hospital. This removes the burden of the tedious and menial task of pushing a medical cart around, which is currently performed by trained medical personnel, a scarce and valuable resource. |

The robot can:
- Automatically adapt to its environment without the the need for guide wires, navigation lines, reflectors or any of the other usually required and cumbersome navigation aids.
- Traverse hallways and overcome blocked destinations by choosing alternate routes
- Collect and deliver patient samples all by itself without the need for human intervention
- Spatial localization within mapped buildings that is accurate to within +/- 2 centimeters and +/- 10 degrees.
- The ability to dynamically change destinations dynamically wirelessly using the provided control software.
- Monitor its own power levels and recharge itself when needed
- Most interestingly, it can update its own internal maps, updating in real time such important spatial information like new destinations, new areas it should not enter, and more.
The Robocourier is being built by CCS Robotics, one of the premier developers of mobile autonomous robotic hardware for the health care, security, and other important industries. Here are some videos of the PatrolBotâ„¢ in action:

Medical, Surgical, & Hospital Technology - Maiden Voyage!
Welcome to our brand new blog! This blog will cover the latest and most interesting developments we find in the breathtaking field of medical technology. This journey will include the most recent and futuristic breakthroughs in surgery and surgical techniques, patient care and rehabilitation, hospital technology, and other items related to the hard core technical side of medicine in general.
This will not be a blog that attempts to cover the diagnosis and prevention of diseases, or the nuances and challenges of medical and biological research. Instead, we will take a look at the machine side of the equation; the devices that are becoming exponentially smarter as the future hurtles towards us at breakneck speed. There are now machines that perform, or at least assist, doctors and nurses in the complicated and delicate field of surgery. Other machines perform drug testing and analysis at speeds that were impossible before their arrival. There are even machines now that help hospitals administrate patient care better and interact with patients independent of a nurse or doctor, or allow a nurse or doctor to interact with a patient from a remote location.
Please join us on this remarkable technological adventure as we explore the world of science fiction made science fact. The world of advanced medical technology.
