I have never owned a robosapien before, having just had a remote controlled car. So, apologies if any of these are silly questions!

I want to purchase two robosapien originals or a roboraptor and a robosapien.

I know you can have these robots running together from what I have seen on here BUT is that because you people know what you are doing and set them at different frequencies? I am not at all knowlegable about any of this but intend to learn.

I had thought of getting a Robosapien v2 but wondered if best to wait for any bugs to be sorted? If you were starting out what combination of 2 robo's would you get? sapien plus sapen OR sapien plus raptor or.....????
Many thanks
Jackie (UK)

Murdo,

The original Robosapien was pretty "loose" about interpreting infrared signals (IR), which is the kind of signal used by the remote controls for all of Mark Tilden's toy robots (Robosapien, Robosapien V2, Robopet, Roboraptor). By "loose" I mean that the IR from even something like the VCR remote control would make Robosapien do something.

The newer robots are better. For example, you can remote control the Robosapien V2, Robopet, and Roboraptor independently, even when they are near each other because they don't accidentally respond to each other's remote control signals.

HOWEVER, multiple robots of the same type (e.g. - all Robopets) WILL respond to the same remote signal if they are all in the line of sight of the same remote control's . IR is a line of sight technology. So it's possible if you are extremely careful to control two Robosapien V2's with different remotes at the same time and not have them interfere, but ONLY if you position them very carefully and hold the remote controls very carefully, so that each Robosapien V2's IR receptors see the beam from only ONE of the remote controls. This goes for the Roboraptor, and Robopet too.

Robots of a different type, except for the original Robosapien, can be used together without interference.

If you are worried about the Robosapien V2 bugs being sorted out, then get a Robopet and a Roboraptor. They're both a lot of fun and will keep you busy for hours (I have all three).

Does this help?

Many thanks Robert, I think I understand now. I had seen these advertised under RC (as in radio control) but now understand they must have meant remote control.

I will have a look at the reviews and try to whittle down my choice ( I would LOVE a V2)

Again, thanks for the patient and helpful description
Jackie

Jackie:
I just became a robo parent, so I am not an expert I can only give you what I have observed. I have two robots, an original Robosapien (V1) AND a Robosapien V2. With this combination, I can play..er..control both at the same time without any interferance. The only flaw I found so far in V2 was that he tended to fall down too much, but I found that his foot pads were installed wrong. After correcting for this, he responds to commands, walks and turns quite well. I find myself playing with..er..controlling each of them almost equally now, but the batteries in V1 outlast V2, but V2 does so much more. I intend to get a Roboraptor soon. Be advised that the original Robosapien and V2 do NOT respond to each other were-as V2 responds to both Robopet AND Roboraptor. Fear not and enjoy your new toy ..er pal.
Rich
