Hi,
Can anyone give me a rough guide for choosing the right motors for a domestic robot?
I'm building a skid steer robot with two motors, each driving a 100 mm wheel, with a front castor wheel. The total load including the weight of the robot itself will be no more than 5 kg. The robot will be operating on a level surface over floor tiles and carpet.
I was thinking of using two Lynxmotion GHM-03 motors. These are rated at 7.2v and 0.687 A, for a rated torque of 0.81 kg cm each. If my maths is correct that should give me 4.95 W per motor, a driving force equal to 0.162 kg per drive wheel, and a total power output of 9.9W.
The stall current of each motor is 2A. I'm using an L298 motor controller with a maximum rating per channel of 2A.
The motors have a rated speed of 235 RPM. I'm aiming for a maximum speed of around 1.2 ms.
All reality checks greatly appreciated.
